New builds will not be heated by gas from 2025

The spring budget has revealed homes built from 2025 will not be heated by fossil fuels.

It’s in a bid to lower carbon emissions and was among a string of announcements made addressing environmental issues.

It comes days before school children worldwide will be walking out of lessons to campaign for government to implement measures towards a safe climate.

Chancellor, Philip Hammond also declared a call for evidence on whether travel providers should be offering customers “genuine carbon offsets” to reduce the pollution from their journeys.

The Ground Source Heat Pump Association (GSHPA) believe it is a positive step.

Welcoming the ban on fossil fuels GSHPA said: “The ground source heat pump industry is ready to meet the challenge with a proven and efficient technology that can deliver to home owners and tenants the lowest operating cost and carbon solution.

“We look forward to working with the Government and others to make this a reality by contributing to the training and standards that will be required to ensure the strongest possible consumer confidence and protection in this growing market.”
